The first time I encountered Cormorants was at Lake Kerkini in northern Greece, where thousands of the large black birds live freely. It's beautiful to see the Cormorants in their natural habitat while discovering the lake on a boat, witnessing the impressive nature around you. Unlike in other parts of the world, where the birds are being seen as "economical and ecological disaster" because they eat the fish that also fishermen are after, in Kerkini fishermen and Cormorants are living peacefully next to each other. Like it should be - after all, we as humans do not own everything that lives on this planet, so the idea of seeing animals as competitors for trying to survive, while humans can decide what to live off, is concerning.
